Coming Events

Mark your calendars!

Northwest Regional Planning Commission has registered to participate in Way to Go! week.  Won’t you register too and help to ensure that Franklin and Grand Isle Counties are well represented in this statewide challenge?

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for the fifth annual Way to Go! Commuter Challenge, May 5-9, 2008. This event encourages the use of cheaper, healthier, and more earth-friendly transportation alternatives to driving alone. Businesses, schools, individuals and teams are encouraged to register today. Everyone who commits to walk, bike, telecommute, carpool, take the bus or use an alternative to driving solo will receive free giveaways and be entered in a drawing to win great prizes—iPods, cordless electric mowers, overnight stays, golf and ski passes and more. Last year nearly 2,000 Way to Go! participants saved an estimated 283,000 commuting miles, 243,000 pounds of CO2, and $44,000 in transportation expenses. This year’s goal is to save at least 500,000 pounds of CO2, so be sure to register today at www.waytogovt.org.

To celebrate Way to Go! week, the Northwest Vermont Public Transit Network (NVPTN) is running a special extra commuter bus from Richford to Saint Albans from May 5-9.  Public transportation (for every mile you ride) uses about one-half of the fuel consumed by the average car.  Contact the NVPTN at 527-2181 to find out how you can take the bus and commute green.  And on May 9th, transit riders can use all CCTA buses, including the Link Express, for just a dime!

Register your business to compete in the “2008 Workplace Commuter Challenge” and go head-to-head with other businesses to see who can encourage the highest percentage of employees to walk, bike, telecommute, carpool or take the bus from May 5-9.

Both kids and adults are encouraged to join in. Improve your health – and the health of the environment – by choosing an alternative to driving alone when traveling to work, school, or play during May 5-9. Information on the Way to Go! Commuter Challenge and commuting alternatives is available at www.waytogovt.org. It only takes a minute to sign up online!

Supervisory Training for Reasonable Suspicion
:

05/08/2008 7:30 am – 10:00 am Northwestern Medical Center Conference Room 2 DOT geared presentation.

05/15/2008 7:30 am – 10:00 am Northwestern Medical Center Conference Room 1 NON-DOT geared presentation.

This training program will assist you in identifying unsafe, potentially impaired employees. To do this, you must be knowledgeable of the effects of alcohol and drugs on the body and be able to detect signs of use. You also need to have the necessary skills to appropriately approach an employee you suspect to be under the influence.
After this training you will:

*  Understand the regulations that apply to reasonable suspicion testing.

*  Recognize the signs and symptoms of alcohol abuse and controlled substance use.

*  Know how to approach employees in a professional and respectful manner.

*  Understand how to initiate the reasonable suspicion process.

*  Be able to effectively complete required documentation.

*$35 per person includes training booklet.

We have decided to improve our approach to this training because the application is somewhat different for DOT vs. NON DOT. We now have two separate training programs depending on your line of business.  Please call if you have questions regarding this.
